How This Started

I had an American Bully when I was young, and that dog is the reason for all of this. I knew what the breed was like to live with long before I knew anything about breeding it.

The kennel itself started in 2015. I had a female I thought a great deal of, and I crossed her with a sire who had the structure I wanted and, just as importantly, the temperament. That first litter came out better than I had any right to expect. Well built, sound, and easy with people. They went quickly, and the families who took them stayed in touch.

That litter set the standard I have bred to ever since. Not the most litters. The healthiest and best-tempered ones I can produce.

What We Breed For

Two things come before anything else: temperament and health.

Temperament first, because an American Bully lives in a house with people. This is a companion breed, and a dog that is nervous or sharp with people is not doing the job the breed exists for. Aggression toward people is a fault in this breed, and I treat it as one.

Health second, because everything else is wasted if the dog is not sound. That means not overbreeding females, not rushing a litter, and not placing a puppy before it is ready to go.

We are not trying to produce as many litters as possible. A smaller number of well-planned litters is the whole approach, and it is the reason there is not always a puppy available when someone asks.

How the Puppies Are Raised

The puppies are born and raised inside our house, not in a separate kennel building. I handle them from the day they are born.

That matters more than it sounds. A puppy raised around a working family gets used to people coming and going, to noise, to being picked up and put down, and. Because our own children are around them — to kids specifically. Children are unpredictable, loud and fast-moving, and a puppy that has never met one finds that frightening. Ours have met them every day since their eyes opened.

By the time a puppy leaves here, being part of a household is normal to it. That is most of what makes the first two weeks in a new home straightforward instead of stressful.

What Every Puppy Has Before It Leaves

• First round of core vaccinations: DHPP — distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus
• At ten weeks: DHPP booster and canine influenza
• Worming: every two weeks from two weeks old until ten weeks old
• Veterinary examination before going home, at Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic in Sedona
• A written health record travels with the puppy
• Microchipping: available for an additional fee

Our veterinarian is Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic, 45 Bell Rock Plaza, Sedona, AZ 86351. You are welcome to check that they exist, and you are welcome to take the health record we give you to your own vet.

One thing we ask of you: take the puppy to your own veterinarian within one week of collection. That visit is a condition of the health guarantee, and it is there for your protection as much as ours. It establishes the puppy's condition on the day it arrived with an independent vet who is not us.

The vaccination series is not finished when the puppy leaves. Your vet will continue it to around sixteen weeks, and rabies is given later, at the age your state requires.

Our Health Commitment

Before we breed a dog, our veterinarian sees it. If he has a concern, the pairing does not happen.

To be clear about what that is and is not: it is a clinical veterinary examination, not OFA certification. We do not hold OFA numbers and we will not imply that we do. If another kennel tells you their dogs are OFA health tested, ask for the certificate numbers. The OFA database is public and anyone can search it in a minute. We would rather you knew exactly what we do than assumed something we cannot back up.

Every puppy leaves us with its first vaccinations, a completed worming protocol, a veterinary examination at Bell Rock Veterinary Clinic, a written health record, a written health guarantee, and our phone number for the life of the dog. The full terms are on our health guarantee page.

We will also take back any dog we have bred, at any point in its life, for any reason. The offer is not a marketing line. It is what separates a breeder from a seller.
