Bambino is our lilac merle American Bully: a twelve-week-old male carrying the rarest color combination the breed produces. Lilac merle needs three separate genetic conditions to align in one dog, which is why you will see the coat advertised far more often than it actually exists. All our puppies come from champion Razor Edge and Gottiline parents, and every one is the same price: we do not charge a color premium. Why This One

Why Choose a Lilac Merle American Bully

Lilac merle is the merle pattern laid over a lilac base. You get the soft mauve-grey of a lilac broken up by lighter silver patching, usually with pale amber, green or blue eyes and a pinkish-grey nose. It is the most visually distinctive coat in the breed.

It is also the hardest to produce honestly. A great many dogs sold as lilac merle are blue merles with light patching, or chocolate merles photographed in warm light. The pigment is the tell. A genuine lilac merle never has a black or dark grey nose.

The Detail

What Makes a Lilac Merle American Bully

Three conditions have to be met in the same dog: b/b (chocolate), d/d (dilution) and one copy of M (merle). The first two produce the lilac base; the third patterns it.

The merle warning applies here too, and more sharply. Because lilac is already so pale, a double merle on a lilac base can be almost entirely white. And double merles are frequently deaf and blind. Two merle parents must never be paired. Bambino came from a single-merle pairing: one merle parent, one non-merle. Any breeder offering lilac merle who cannot state the merle status of both parents should be avoided outright.

Lilac Merle American Bully rarity and demand

The rarest coat combination in the breed. Three specific genetic conditions in one dog, two of them recessive, means most litters bred for it produce none at all.

Every kennel we know of charges more for the rarer coats. We do not. A lilac merle costs us exactly what a blue costs us to raise, so it is priced the same. Full context in the American Bully price guide and the color genetics chart.

FAQ

Lilac Merle American Bully For Sale — Frequently Asked Questions

What is a lilac merle American Bully?

A dog with a lilac base coat (chocolate plus dilution) carrying one copy of the merle gene, which patches the coat with lighter silver. Pale amber, green or blue eyes and a pinkish-grey nose are typical.

How can I tell a real lilac merle?

Look at the nose and paw pads, not the coat. A genuine lilac merle has pinkish-grey pigment. A black or dark grey nose means you are looking at a blue merle, regardless of how light the coat appears in the photograph.

Is lilac merle risky to breed?

The lilac part is not. The merle part carries the standard risk: two merle parents produce roughly 25% double merles, which are commonly deaf and blind. And on a lilac base the effect is even more pronounced. We only ever breed merle to non-merle.
