Why Choose a Fawn American Bully
Fawn covers a broad band of warm tan to red shades, produced by the sable allele at the A locus. Most fawn dogs carry some degree of dark shading through the coat and often a darker mask across the muzzle.
Add the dilution gene and you get blue fawn or lilac fawn. Softer, more silvered versions with lighter noses and pale eyes. That is what Coco and Boston are, and it is a considerably scarcer coat than plain fawn.
Related coats: blue fawn American Bully, champagne American Bully and lilac American Bully.

What Makes a Fawn American Bully
Fawn comes from the ay (sable) allele at the A locus, which produces a coat of warm tan to red with variable dark shading. For the A locus to express at all, the dog must not carry dominant black at the K locus.
Intensity genes control how deep the color runs, the same ay allele can produce anything from near-white cream to a deep rust red. Adding the dilution gene (d/d) lightens the pigment further and softens the nose, producing blue fawn or, on a chocolate base, lilac fawn.
The genes involved
| Locus | What it controls | Relevant alleles |
|---|---|---|
| A | Pattern within the coat | ay (fawn/sable) · at (tan points) recessive |
| D | Dilution of pigment | D (full) dominant · d (dilute) recessive |
| K | Dominant black and brindle | KB (solid) · kbr (brindle) · k (allows A locus) |
