American Bully Growth Chart — Weight Month by Month

Written by BreedersBreeding Since 2015Sedona, Arizona

This American Bully growth chart tracks weight month by month from eight weeks to maturity, by class. Use it to check your puppy is growing steadily rather than fast. Because in a large breed, fast growth is a problem rather than an achievement. For adult targets by class, see the weight chart.

How to Use This Chart Properly

These are ranges, and a healthy puppy can sit outside them. Two things matter more than the number:

  1. The trend. Steady progression along a consistent line matters far more than hitting a specific figure in a given month.
  2. Body condition. A puppy at the top of the range and carrying fat is worse off than one at the bottom and lean. Feel the ribs. You should find them easily under a thin layer.

Why Fast Growth Is a Problem

This is the part that runs against instinct. You bought a dog for its substance, so a puppy growing quickly feels like a good sign. It is not.

Rapid growth in a large-breed puppy is associated with hip and elbow dysplasia and other developmental orthopaedic disease. Joints developing under excess load do not develop correctly, and the damage does not reverse when the dog slims down later.

A puppy grown slowly reaches the same adult size. It just gets there later, with better joints. Keep it lean, feed large-breed formula, and do not supplement calcium. See the feeding guide.

FAQ

American Bully Growth Chart — Frequently Asked Questions

How much should a 6-month-old American Bully weigh?

Roughly 45–58 lbs for a standard male, 55–70 for an XL male, 32–42 for a pocket. Females run 10–15% lighter. Body condition matters more than hitting the number.

Is my American Bully puppy growing too fast?

If it is consistently above the range and you cannot easily feel its ribs, yes. Reduce the food by about 10%. Fast growth in a large breed is a risk factor for joint disease, not a sign of a good dog.

When do American Bullies reach full weight?

Around two years for pocket and standard, two to two and a half for XL, and up to three for XXL. Height finishes well before weight does.

My puppy is below the chart, should I worry?

Not necessarily. Trend matters more than absolute figures, and individual dogs vary. If the puppy is lean but growing steadily and full of energy, it is likely fine. If growth has stalled, see your vet, parasites are a common cause.

A Feeding Schedule With Every Puppy

Your puppy leaves with a written schedule showing amounts by age, so growth stays steady rather than fast. Text us its weight at any point and we will tell you honestly whether it is on track.
