Why Micro Costs More
Smaller litters
Micro females produce three to five puppies where an XL might have eight to ten. Every fixed cost of the litter. Stud fee, prenatal care, whelping, the dam's recovery — is divided across half as many puppies.
High caesarean rate
Large head, narrow pelvis. Caesarean sections are common rather than exceptional in this class, at $1,500–$4,000 each, and that cost lands on the litter.
Few puppies finish in range
Breeding two micros does not reliably produce micros. A substantial share of any litter finishes as pocket-sized, which is a perfectly good dog sold at a fraction of the micro price. The ones that do finish under 14 inches carry the economics of the whole litter.
Genuine demand
Small dogs suit apartments, cities and owners who cannot handle a hundred-pound animal. While still looking like the full breed. That demand is real and it is not going away.

The Health Question Behind the Price
