Add-Ons to Refuse
- "Health package": vaccinations and worming are not optional extras, they are basic care.
- "Registration processing fee": the paperwork either exists or it does not.
- "Special crate fee": a classic escalation in puppy scams.
- "Transport insurance" charged after a deposit. Legitimate nanny services carry their own cover.
- "Holding fee" on top of a deposit, a deposit is the holding fee.
How Deposits Should Work
A deposit reserves a specific named puppy and takes it off the listing. Reasonable terms look like this:
- Non-refundable if you change your mind. Fair. The breeder held the puppy off the market for you.
- Fully refundable if the breeder cannot deliver: the puppy becomes unwell, fails its final vet check, or anything else on their side.
- Applied to the balance, not additional to it.
- Documented in writing before you send anything.
